DC Dimapur, Maong Aier has expressed concern that various village and community leaders have reportedly been issuing directives to villagers residing outside the village area to return to their villages for census and also over reports of construction of new houses for the purpose of census.
Stating that such steps would affect the data, the DC informed village/community leaders including GBs and VCCs to ensure that only the people who “normally” reside in their respective villages were enumerated. Aier clarified that it would include people employed as village school teachers and government employees who may reside outside the village, and exclude those persons who belonged to the village but stay in towns or other villages pursuing their career.
Reminding GBs and VCCs of the resolution adopted during VDB Communitization conference 2009 at Ganeshnagar that they would ensure correct census to be conducted in the state, Maong Aier further directed them to abstain from issuing the above mentioned reported directives as they would distort the demographic picture of the district and implicate the quality of data collected.
