Rodent awareness at Longleng, Sanis

Department of agriculture conducted a training on rodent awareness campaign on May 28 at PPC hall, Longleng. Census Directorate of Agriculture deputy director, Temjensoba and DAO office Mokokchung training officer, Temsuinla were resource persons of the programme. Topics on keeping vigil on bamboo flowering, awareness of rodent population during bamboo flowering, biological and chemical control measures, use of local traps etc were discussed during the training. The programme was chaired by SDAO, S. Yongchang Phom while vote of thanks was proposed by AFA Ato Phom. Rodenticides (roban) were distributed to farmers after the training.
Meanwhile, department of agriculture Baghty has conducted training on rodent pest management at town hall, Sanis on May 28 with APPO Wokha, Peter as the resource person. The APPO apprised farmers on bamboo flowering and consequent increase of rodent population. While demonstrating various types of traps made with locally available materials for rodent management, he also stressed on cultural and indigenous methods and conservation of natural enemies like owl, snake, eagle etc and the use of chemical poison as the last step for tackling rodent menace. A total of 124 farmers attended the training and extended gratitude to the department for organizing the training in their area.
