NABARD general manager K.C Panda on May 28 visited Longpang village and met with farmers growing citrus and banana plants for the last one year supported by NABARD.
A total of 65,000 orange trees and almost 1, 20,000 banana plantations benefited 500 farmers of Hakchang, Sangsangyu, Maksha, Saoshou, Sangchen and Momching villages.
This was also an occasion for quest to interact with Self Help Group executive members supported by NABARD.
Observing the progress since 2008, Panda said he was impressed and encouraged by the progress. He also expressed gratitude to Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS) for efficiently managing the project. The general manager launched 18 Farmers’ Clubs representing 17 villages at CKS Conference hall in presence of Branch Manager Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Ltd, KVK staff and Agri allied team members.
At the base level orientation session Panda spoke on structure, workings and strategies of farmers’ clubs. He also emphasized on importance of strong alliance of various governmental agencies with farmers’ club which would help in transferring scientific technology to farmers.
He also encouraged club members in gaining credibility of the Banks for accessing more services.
