Tree plantation to mark World Environment Day

Forest Department: Forest department will observing World Environment Day –cum- launching of Year of Plantation on June 5 at Heritage Complex, Kisama with MC Konyak minister for Forest, Ecology, Environment and Wildlife and Excise as chief guest. Forest department has declared 2010 as “Year of Tree Plantation for carbon mitigation”.
With this declaration, massive plantations are to be taken up in all the districts of the state. The department has appealed to all public students’ organizations, NGOs, civil societies and various functionaries of the government to participate in the tree planting activities during the planting season through out the month of June 2010.
MOKOKCHUNG: Mokokchung district will be observing the year of plantation on June 5. For this, various sites have been selected to plant ornamental tree saplings. Trees saplings for 18 number of town ward areas, Longkhum-Sapangya road, CRPF camp Mokokchung will be distributed on June 4 at DFO’s office Mokokchung; all departments’ office complex, colleges and schools will be distributed on June 4 at Town Hall Mokokchung and For Mokokchung- Marini Road (30Km) saplings will be provided on the spot on June 3. CSU: Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has requested all units to observe ‘Tree Plantation Week’ from June 6 to 12 and to arrange for tree saplings at their own expenses. The union further appreciated those units who have observed tree plantation week in advance.
CLCSUD: City Law College Student Union Dimapur (CLCSUD) will be conducting social work on June 5 to mark the environmental day and has convened a general meeting. All students have been requested to reach the campus at 7 am.
ASUK: Ao Students’ Union Kohima (ASUK) will be observing the World Environment Day from class vii and above on June in commemoration of its year long golden jubilee celebration on the theme ‘Towards a cleaner and greener Kohima’. All students have been requested to assemble at P.R Hill Junction, Kohima at 6 a.m without fail.
