Union Home Secretary G K Pillai Thursday arrived here in Meghalaya to review the overall law and situation in the region with police chiefs of the eight northeastern states.
On Friday, Pillai will chair the board meeting of North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) and take stock of the functioning of academy in terms of imparting training and future development programmes.
“There are lots of issues that will be deliberates and I cannot share them with you,” RR Verma, NEPA director said.
He also informed that the DGPs of eight northeastern states will also attend the meeting. Later in the day, Pillai is scheduled to meet Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and Chief Secretary WMS Pariat.
He will discuss the internal security situation and the progress of the border fencing work along the Bangladesh border vis-à-vis the boundary dispute with Assam. Pillai’s visit to Meghalaya is significant in the wake of Assam’s aggressive incursion inside Meghalaya’s territory.
Earlier, soon after his arrival from New Delhi, Pillai visited the headquarters of Assam Rifles, the oldest paramilitary force in the country.
He also inaugurated the Assam Rifles auditorium at Laitkor around 20km from here. The auditorium is a state of art facility with a seating capacity of 600 personnel. EOM
