Self-styled PA to CM arrested

Based on a complaint received from the Health & Family Welfare department on May 12, Dimapur Police arrested an impersonator at Kohima posing as the self styled ‘P.A. to Chief Minister’ under an assumed name ‘Nike Rio’. The accused was identified as one Sorenthung Tungoe (35) who also confessed he was one time P.A. to an ex-MLA.
Briefing media persons here, SDPO Dimapur disclosed that the accused was traced to a mobile number discovered through Call Data Records (CDR) which proved crucial in the investigation.
Police called the number which was answered by the accused’s father-in-law. When police asked to speak with Sorenthung, he passed information that he was “very busy for the Road Show” and asked Police to call later. When the Addl.C.S. to the chief minister was contacted, Police were informed that there was no such person by the name ‘Nike Rio’.
A police team led by UBSI Jenmai Konyak and ASI Inaka Kinny, who went to Kohima were informed about the location and went to arrest the accused. Police said Sorenthung almost hoodwinked the team when his wife told them he was out while he was actually was sitting with them all the while. It was only after the police threatened to take his wife to the police station that the accused disclosed his identity.
Later Sorenthung confessed to issuing forged appointment letters under the designation of ‘PA to CM’ and an assumed name ‘Nike Rio’. It was also learnt that the accused graduated in B.Sc (Chemistry) from a college in Nagaland.
Police recovered a total of 46 forged documents which also included certificates of School of Nursing, Naga Hospital, Kohima, some official pads of Education department and various other incriminating documents. He forged the insurance papers for his vehicle using the seal of ‘Progressive Motors, Dimapur’ besides issuing forged documents for district healthcare centers of Zunheboto, Wokha and Peren. He also claimed that he was a former vocalist with the state DGP band.
