Colleges, organizations observe World Environment Day with fervor

NSS Oriental College: Oriental College Kohima NSS unit observed ‘World Environment Day’ on June 5 by conducting cleanliness drive and tree plantation at the college campus. The activities were held with the help of NSS PO vice principal, dean of Students and wardens of the college.
Altogether, 60 NSS volunteers took part in the cleanliness drive and tree plantation. The NSS programme officer, C. Theyo thanked L. Kenneth Punyü, State Liaison Officer NSS Cell, for issuing saplings of various species for the day.
NSS Phek govt.college: Phek government college NSS unit observed ‘World Environment Day’ on June 5 by planting tree saplings along the stretch from Old Phek to Phek Town (gate 1). Altogether a total number of 154 volunteers participated in the plantation drive.
The programme officer and volunteers have expressed gratitude to Neiwekha and staff of DFO for providing the required saplings.
Bridge of hope: Bridge of hope (child care project) Amrajan under believers Church of India observed environment day at project centre by planting and distributing varieties of saplings with Diya united group (NGO) president Debashish Bhattacharjee was the invited guest.
Aghunato sub-division: Zunheboto district celebrated World Environment Day at Aghunato sub-division.
The programme was co-sponsored and organised by ATMA (Soil) and forest department.
About 500 delegates attended the function including GBs, VCCs from 25 villages, students and student body from Eastern Sema Students’ Union (ESSU).
The celebration was marked by plantation drive initiated and volunteered by ESSU along the road sides from Zunheboto to Aghunato, government offices and schools in Aghunato town and the ceremonial plantation was done by DFO Zunheboto division.
Essay writing competition was also organized on the theme ‘Global Warming and its Impacts’. T-Shirts jerseys were distributed to Eco-club members and ESSU members and to all the representing villages.
The house also adopted resolutions focused on 3 points declaration of community forest in every village including ban on shooting, hunting, trapping of wild animals and use of chemical in the rivers and control of forest fire.
NSS, nature club KSCJ: Commemorating World Environment Day, NSS in collaboration with nature Club of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (KSCJ) organized a tree plantation drive in the college campus.
Forty five volunteers, 3 programme officers and state liason officer participated in the program. Also 20 NSS volunteers from the college participated in the launching program of ‘Year of Tree Plantation’ held at Kisama.
The NSS also organized a seminar on environment for students in the college conference hall with resource persons Tiakaba Jamir, Dr. Vineetha Kumari and Dr. Vethselo Duolo.
Kohima NSS: National Service Scheme (NSS) on June 5 observed world environment day. At Kohima besides programmes like cleanliness drive and tree plantation at respective institutions, two students took part in the tree plantation drive at Indira Gandhi stadium, Kohima and NSS volunteers from three colleges also participated in the programme organized by the forest department at Kisama.
Meanwhile the NSS will observe the month of June as “Month of plantation”.
During the month long campaign all the NSS volunteers through out the state will be motivated to plant trees, the villagers adopted by NSS will also be encouraged to plant tree and to preserve and conserve the environment.
Meanwhile, NSS has expressed gratitude to all DFOs for extending necessary help and thanked the DFO, Kohima for providing 5000 tree saplings for institution for Kohima district.
