United Naga Council (UNC) has issued a 5-day ultimatum starting from the date of this statement to the Manipur government to revoke the arrest warrant on its president and also withdraw the bounty announced in connection with the same, failing which the council said it would have no option but to intensify its agitation on all possible fronts.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur police department Monday declared acting president of ANSAM, David Choro and acting president of UNC Samson Remei as “wanted with cash rewards of Rs one lakh each for their arrest/providing information leading to their arrest.”
The UNC publicity wing expressed shock at the announcement and condemned the state government’s design to “criminalise the UNC for demanding justice for the tribal people.”
Meanwhile, the Naga youth front has stated that arresting Samson and David Choro would not solve the issue, adding it would compound the level of flame that was already burning.
NYF, in a statement, declared to defend its leaders and the body with “any amount of human lives.”
Further, the front remarked that “criminalising the established Naga traditional body was a curse and crime to us” and hence it would defend, come what may.
