Tura; Meghalaya’s likely winter capital

Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma today said that Meghalaya will have Raj Bhavan Annexe at Tura, while hinting that Tura, the headquarter of West Garo Hills district would be also declared as the Winter capital of Meghalaya.
The government will go ahead with the establishment of a Raj Bhavan Annexe and Mini-Secretariat at Tura in order to make the delivery system efficient and effective, Dr Sangma said in the Assembly.
The Chief Minister made this announcement after the Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma highlighted the failure of the government’s delivery system especially on the functions and powers of the Joint Directorates at Tura
“New initiatives and new direction is necessary. We need to learn from past and identify area of weaknesses. Every department must integrate and coordinate with each other to ensure that development programmes are properly implemented,” he said.
Stating that regional balance will only emerge when there is development in various parts of the districts in the state, Dr Sangma also stated that to strengthen the bond of relationship among different communities of the state there is a need for leaders also to breach the gap.
Dr Sangma also stressed on the need for development in all parts of the state.
