Admitting that there was “miscommunication” over its proposed move to conduct “100% HIV testing” in targeted intervention projects, the Project Orchid Wednesday declared it as withdrawn. According to a statement from N-NagaDAO, it conducted a joint meeting with NEIDUF, NNP+, NUN, Project Orchid and NSACS in Kohima today concerning proposed mandatory HIV testing among drug users. After deliberating on the issue, the meeting, held under the chairmanship of state commissioner secretary of health and family welfare, reiterated that mandatory HIV testing was violation of human rights and that it would have “serious negative impact.” Project Orchid also apologized for the confusion created, it stated. Meanwhile, the N-NagaDAO has lauded the understanding that came about from the meeting to work together in close coordination in addressing the challenges of HIV and drug use.
