Lochamo (Achamo) Kikon, 84 years of Yanthamo village, Wokha district, is today one of the few surviving members of World War II Labour Corps who worked for Allied forces in Burma and Manipur in 1944.
He is said to have applied for Old Age Pension three times (since few years back) and still hopping to hear from the government.
“People say I am not old. How old do I have to be to get this pension?” Lochamo laments. Recipient of ‘Burma Star’, ‘1939-1945 Star’ and ‘King George Medal’, he served in Assam Police after the war till1951. An octogenarian, yet he is still actively involved in agriculture which is his sole source of income for livelihood and the secret of his good health.
