With an objective to redefine television viewing in India, direct-to-home (DTH) company, Dishtv has officially launched its high definition (HD) service, Dish Tru HD for LCD/LED/plasma TV consumers in the state at Hotel Tragopan, Dimapur on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference after the launch, Dishtv East deputy vice president, Anindya Sengupta said the national DTH giant has preponed the launch in Nagaland taking into account the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 and the high orientation of football viewers in the state. He stated that HD-ready TVs were being sold across the country for many years but consumers were not able to enjoy the benefit of HD technology due to lack of HD distribution and programming. However, with the launch of Dish Tru HD, a first of its kind in India, Dishtv aims to enable HD TV consumers to experience an audio-visual sensory which would be richer and more panoramic than standard definition viewing, Sengupta added.
Company officials stated that with Dish Tru HD, football aficionados would be able to experience FIFA World Cup 2010 to be broadcasted by ESPN on high definition, with 1080i resolution.
The compact Dish Tru HD set top box, priced at Rs.5990 would initially come with HD channel bouquet of Zee TV HD, Zee Cinema HD, Discovery World HD and National Geographic HD at Rs.150 per month. It would feature five times sharper picture and sound clarity, vivid colors, high definition multimedia interface (HDMI), SPDIF connector and 1080i interlaced HD TV video mode implying a resolution of 1920 pixels and a frame resolution of 1920x 1080 (2.07 million pixels).
It may be mentioned that Dishtv announced the official launch of Dish Tru HD service nationwide at Kolkata and simultaneously in Mumbai on June 8.
