Nagaland Medicine Dealers’ Association (NMDA) has requested ANSAM and NSF for immediate arrangement of exempting at least the life saving drugs and other medicines from the purview of the economic blockade imposed along NH 39, in the larger interest of all the victims in the affected area. NMDA president, A. Ato Yepthomi in a statement said the association was in receipt of a letter from the Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association from Imphal citing the “pathetic condition” of diminishing stocks of medicines. Expressing concern over the matter, the NMDA has called upon all the civil societies both in Nagaland and Manipur to immediately sit together and find an amicable solution to the prevailing problem for a harmonial co-existence, and till then resume supply of medicines to all the affected people on humanitarian grounds. Meanwhile, NDTV Tuesday reported that healthcare in Manipur was completely paralysed with hospitals running out of oxygen, diesel and life saving drugs. Food supplies are scarce. The largest private hospital in Manipur conducts at least 15 surgeries everyday and can’t admit any more patients requiring GA or patients needing ICU.
