Meghalaya police today arrested five Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants and seized arms and ammunitions. Police official said the arrest was made following a house raid in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills district in the wee hours.
Further, the five arrested militants had been identified as Matchallang Sangma alias Rikrik, Neolash M. Sangma, Halbing Momin alias Nigam M Momin, Mihim Sangma and Pinsai Sangma alias Jonathone. A 9 mm pistol with nine rounds of live ammunition, one air pistol and cash Rs.5000 were seized from their possession.
This had been the third set-back for Sangma’s Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) after the police arrested the outfit’s “general secretary” Novemberth Ch Marak at Siliguri railway station last Saturday.
Following that arrest the police busted one of its camps holed in Durama hill between West and South Garo Hills district Wednesday and recovered arms, ammunition and incriminating documents.
Meanwhile, police had started to glean information from the five arrested militants.
