Morung at Longmisa village

A ‘morung’ (Arujo) belonging to Imrong Khel of Longmisa village was inaugurated by T.N Mannen Addl. Chief Secretary & Commissioner (Retd.) and Advisor NPF Nagaland who also attended the program as the chief guest.
Delivering his address, the Chief Guest lamented how the rich culture and traditions of Nagas were fading away slowly and how the very tenet of the culture was vanishing. Partly blaming the advent of Christianity as one of the factors to neglect in culture and tradition in the society, the Chief Guest lauded the efforts of Longmisa villagers for reviving tradition by constructing a ‘morung’ at the village.
He added ‘morung’s’ were a multi-disciplinary institute where all the unmarried men folk of the village were trained on discipline, respect and so on, however, he added ‘morung’ in modern times would now be used for different purposes.
Encouraging the villagers, he said that ‘morungs’ in the villages should now be used as one of an item for tourist attraction in the village, as he said tourism has great potentials.
Commenting on political role, chief guest said after resigning from government post, he contested the last assembly elections but was not elected; however, he had decided to work for the people at the grass root level and assured to continue to do so in the future. He sought to hear grievances of the people, if any, as well as share the problems of the people so that he could convey that to the government with regard to various developmental issues. \
He further added that present DAN government was performing government and therefore expressed hope that aspirations of the people would be fulfilled.
Earlier in the program, the history of ‘morung’ was explained in detail by Putusowa G.B. The chief guest, was accompanied by a host of govt. officials and party officials from Mokokchung.
