Union home ministry had reportedly recommended the Chhattisgarh government to take action against two of its IPS officers— IGP Bastar region, T.J Longkumer and SP Dantewada, Amresh Mishra in connection with the April 6 incident where 76 security personnel were butchered by Maoists. An official speaking to this correspondent on condition of anonymity, Monday said that the Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh at a press conference in Raipur had stated that both the IPS officers were given a clean chit as they were not responsible for the “command failure” of the CRPF officials. Raman had said that since the state government was aware of the facts, there was no need for another inquiry.
On Monday six Maoists including a self-styled commander; Barsa Lakma involved in the April 6 incident were arrested. Lakma admitted that Maoists had used the RT (Radio Transmission) set lost by the CRPF team. According to police sources, on April 5 the CRPF team after conducting an area domination operation stopped for lunch in an open field while returning back, which was against the standard operating procedure. Maoists, who picked up the RT set misplaced by the CRPF column, were able to keep track of their movement prior to the attack. Knowing that the CRPF would return to search for the RT set, Papa Rao, operation incharge of the area planned a well synchronized attack killing 76 security personnel. The official also said, CRPF officials had not informed the Chhattisgarh police about the loss of the RT set which proved to be fatal.
