Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF), a newly formed body, after a prolonged discussion at a meeting Tuesday, attended by concerned citizens of Dimapur, has resolved to oppose any move by the government to rename Dimapur which has a historical background. According to a joint statement singed by 84 citizens including MLAs of Dimapur district, former DMC members, leaders of different tribal Hohos and mass based organizations of Dimapur district, the meeting, initiated and hosted by MLA Hewoto Awomi, was held at Thahekhu village to discuss the issue of renaming of Dimapur. Expressing their dissatisfaction on the proposal to rename Dimapur, the house observed that renaming Dimapur would rather invite misunderstanding and create social disharmony among different communities, it stated. The house also resolved to submit a written memorandum to state governor for his intervention. A copy of memorandum, which was released to the press, urged the governor to direct the responsible authority to consult and take views of the forum before taking any step with regard to renaming Dimapur. In the meeting, it was resolved to form a common platform namely “Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum” for the welfare of the people of Dimapur district. The forum would be headed by Hokiye Yepthomi as president and I.Temjen Jamir as general secretary with all the presidents of tribal hohos/organisation as executive members and one member each from all tribes/organisations as a representative.
