Anguish, tension and strong resentment was visible on Saturday among the residents of Diphu, particularly the Bengali community following the heinous butchery of Maya Dey, Headmistress of Binapani ME School at her own residence at Railway Colony by unknown assailants on the night of June 18.
Although preliminary enquiry suggested the fact that the deceased teacher became a prey of some intruders who sneaked into her residence with the intention of robbery, sensing peril at their end, butchered her mercilessly.
One of the neighbour on condition of anonymity pointed out that a hefty amount of money was found in her residence which was kept quite open for burglars to detect and leave the place without any hindrance.
Strangely enough, the killers preferred not the touch the money, raising doubt that motive behind the crime was not robbery.
Another fact that came to light on Saturday as revealed by some collogues of the deceased teacher that a few days back she had given nominal punishment to a student of a particular community, who later had to be hospitalized.
The injury mark visible on the head of Maya Dey was quite similar to that of the boy who was punished few days back
Though Maya Dey was residing in a very thickly populated locality, not even her next door neighbor had any clue of the dreaded crime which unfolded in such a close quarter.
Different findings indicate that Maya Dey in all likelihood became a victim of personal vengeance, a mystery which is likely to come out if an impartial, bold and timely enquiry is being initiated by the local police.
