Refuting allegations made by Transporters and Drivers’ Council (TDC) that collection of Rs.25,000 from some Manipur bound trucks were made by a Dimapur based student body, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) Sunday demanded TDC to furnish its allegation with evidence within 72 hours. Describing the allegation as “wild imagination” and “act of desperation” of certain section of people trying to capitalize on the blockade issue in a bid to woo the central government for extra financial help by portraying “bad pictures” of democratic resistance shown by Nagas, a statement issued by DNSU general secretary, K Mhachio Lotha demanded TDC to submit proof to the union’s office within the stipulated period. While assuring that DNSU would take action against any of its members, if involved, union cautioned that it would initiate “befitting” action against TDC members if they failed to substantiate their claim. DNSU also cautioned that failure on the part of TDC to prove it’s allegations within the stipulated time, union would take its own course of action, for which, it will not be held responsible, the statement added. Meanwhile, DNSU called upon media fraternity to ascertain facts before going into publication, particularly on “volatile issues”.
