A pre-season training programme on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) was conducted in Longra Village for Noksen block on June 17 sponsored by NABARD, regional office Dimapur, under FIPF.
The training was organized jointly by Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Eleutheros Christian Society Tuensang, in view with the demonstration programme to be undertaken in two blocks under Tuensang district.
The resource person for the programme included Tokiho Achumi, subject matter specialist Agronomy, officer-in-charge of the programme, KVK, Tuensang, during the training said that the production system of agriculture needs a paradigm shift from subsistence to commercially oriented agriculture to attain self-sufficiency in Agriculture Production Sector.
He pointed out that at the present scenario, farmers needed to adopt new technologies which can increase production to sustain increasing population.
While introducing the technology, he pointed out that, basing on the ‘On Farm Trial’ conducted during the year 2009, SRI technology showed high potential for increasing the production of rice in Tuensang district.
All together 20 beneficiaries including 14 other farmers were trained.
Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tuensang has expressed gratitude to NABARD, Nagaland regional office, Dimapur, for approving to grant sanction of assistance in implementing demonstration of SRI in Tuensang district.
