Kidima Students’ Union (KSU) has appealed to deputy commissioner Kohima to take necessary action against the rampant tax allegedly collected by Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) at Phesama check gate along NH-39 Kohima. According to KSU, taxes were regularly collected in the name of local tax and toll tax on every bus, taxi, tata mobile, local trucks and trucks from other states at Phesama check gate.
The union in this connection visited check gate on NH-39 on June 10 and detected several pay counters in and around Southern Amgami areas including check gate at Khuzama and Phesama, two different pay counters at Jakhama village. Reiterating government order on June 22, 2009 on banning collecting of taxes at check gate or any part of the highways by any organisation, KSU stated it would not tolerate public organisations to collect taxes.
