BJP observes ‘Manipur Solidarity Day’

Manipur BJP observed a one-day hunger strike as part of countrywide “Manipur Solidarity Day” on Wednesday in remembrance of the death anniversary of its leader Dr Shyama Prashad Mukherjee in the national level.
As part of the observations, the state unit of the party staged a hunger strike in front of the party office at Nitaypat Chuthek, Imphal. Leaders, workers and supporters took part in the stir which was started from 11 am and went on till 3 pm.
Speaking at a function, state BJP president, Shantikumar Sharma said that the event was a remarkable day in the political history of the state as for the first time a national political party was conducting a nationwide campaign for the unity and integrity of Manipur. General secretary Th Shyamo Singh urged the centre to take up immediate steps to restore normalcy in the region.
the BJP national leaders resolved to observe ‘Manipur Solidarity Day’ at the national executive committee’s meeting held on June 12 and 13, Shyamo added. The central BJP team led by opposition leader in the Lok Sabha earlier scheduled to arrive Imphal today, however did not arrive in the state.
BJP, Manipur Pradesh earlier had announced that the BJP central team would be arriving in the state to asses the situation in Manipur.
