Even after the NSF and ANSAM temporarily suspended blockade along NH-39, Manipur bound truckers continue to stay away from the route, expressing grave apprehensions despite the elaborate security arrangements provided by the government machineries.
So far, only 11 Manipur bound trucks passed through Dimapur Wednesday under the heavy security cover provided by central paramilitary forces. With the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) of Manipur resolving not to ply NH 39 till costs of damaged vehicles were compensated by the Centre, a few trucks were damaged while flouting the boycott.
Talking to this reporter over the phone, SP Dimapur Liremo Lotha informed that four platoons of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and three companies from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have already been deployed for the past three days to provide security.
“Two platoons of CRPF have been deployed at New Field check gate to provide security till Kohima and two from Kohima till Mao gate” Liremo disclosed. While the ITBP has been assigned to carry out ROP duties from Dimapur till Kohima, he added. On asking about the role assigned to Nagaland Police, the SP said that they have been providing necessary logistics support to the paramilitary forces and will continue to do so. However at the same time he also admitted that police cannot force trucks to ply on the route.
