Naga Youth Front (NYF) has expressed support to Zeliangrong Student’s Union Tamenglong District (ZSUTD) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF-AMN) in opposing the decision of Manipur government to take over the task of maintenance and improvement of National Highway 53 by state Public Works Department (PWD) from the Border Road Organization (BRO)/ Border Road Task Force.
A press statement issued by Naga Youth Front investigation and publicity M. Dosopuwa affirmed the front’s support for ZSUTD resolution to call total bandh and indefinite economic blockade in Manipur if the state government did not revoke its decision and hand over the NH 53 to BRO.
Naga Youth Front alleged that government’s decision was “another desperate attempt to distort, divide and confuse the Nagas and the tribals in the name of development to loot public money”. It also said when the NH 39 between Maram and Kangpokpi was to be given to BRTF, the Ibobi Singh led government managed to put it under PWD and gave away the contract works to their family members.
“Bills are all paid and now the quality of the workmanship and the condition is the living witness,” M. Dosopuwa added.
He also stated that it was time for the people to understand with reality the “sinister design” of Ibobi government to promote communalism and hatred amongst the people for their personal agenda and benefit.
On ADC elections, the NYF held that attempts to bribe the people with monetary schemes or “power to ADC” would not solve the issue as perceived, and stated that the ADC election stood “null and void” for the tribals.
Meanwhile, the NYF appealed to all Nagas, particularly the Zeliangrong and tribal people to be aware and not be taken in by “sinister design” in the name of committee/development body/cooperation committee/chingtam amatani slogans.
