With an aim to tap the abundant natural resources available in Nagaland and to provide low cost power supply to rural areas, a new ‘Hydro Turbinator’ was successfully demonstrated at Chathe River in the presence of officials from NEPeD and media persons on Friday.
The brainchild behind the new ‘Hydro Turbinator’ Imltitoshi Namo said that the low cost technology could be used in rural areas where there is no proper electricity.
The ‘Hydro Turbinator’ which weigh around 10 kilograms, works on the power of water current to rotate the turbine which in turn is connected to a power converter called switched-mode power supply (SMPS) kit to convert the volt and current characteristics from Alternate Current (AC) to Direct Current (DC).
The ‘Hydro Turbinator’ will provide 45 to 65 megawatts, enough to light up 4 Compact Fluorescent Lamp.
With 60% financial assistance from NEPeD, he could complete the machine within three months.
Apart from this, he has also come up with two others machine, Wind Turbine-type 1 and Hydro-Turbinator-type 3. Imlitoshi, who is also a recipient of national award for electronics and mechanical 2009 from National Innovation Foundation, said ‘Hydro Turbinator’ will be sent to New Delhi for exhibition on innovation technology organized by Indian Military on June 30.
Meanwhile, member Project Operation Unit NEPeD, Takum Chang disclosed that the department was ready to fund such type of technology, which requires low cost and environment friendly and would benefit the rural population with such innovation.
He also said that Nagaland being full of untapped resources such as water resources, which can produce about 10,000 megawatts, solar and wind potentials, the NEPeD is always on the look out for such innovation in terms of tapping water, solar and wind potentials to empower the economic growth especially in the rural areas. Imltitoshi, the mastermind behind the project said the ‘Hydro Turbinator’ will be installed in Chumukidema, Police check gate for demonstration initially.
