HSLC music topper awarded

Student of Pilgrim School Tingneineng Vaiphei on Saturday was awarded Lt. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou’s Memorial Award for Music for securing highest mark in music in HSLC 2010. The award ceremony was held at Lt. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou’s Memorial Hall Kohima with Dr. Nicky Kire, chairman of NKVIB and advisor, Music Task Force as the chief guest.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nicky Kire stated that Nagas had enormous talents in music and lauded the Lt. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou’s memorial Society for recognizing music student toppers. He requested the society to identify deserving musicians so that the Music Task Force would financially assist the students in their music career. He informed that the Music Task Force was trying to raise the level of music in Nagaland and groom musicians in the right way.
The chief guest further stated that music, like sports, was a big earning industry, and added that believing in music career as a weak income source was a wrong notion. He urged parents not to force their children in choosing their career.
Dr. Nicky also emphasized on dangers of HIV and AIDS and exhorted youths to be careful in their behavior wherever they go.
Recipient of the award, Tingneineng Vaiphei thanked Lt. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou’s Memorial Society for the felicitation. She was awarded a cash of Rs.15,000 along with certificate. The recipient also acknowledged her music teacher, school and her parents for their guidance.
Songs were presented by the children of Lt. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou and choirs of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Church and Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School. A moment of silence was observed in remembrance of Lt. Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou.
