19 militants lay down arms in Manipur

19 UG cadres from various underground groups including 15 from United Liberation Army (ULA) 3 cadres belonging to KYKL and a UNLF cadre formally surrendered to the state DGP, Y Joy Kumar in the presence of Major General CA Krishnan, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) during a function held at HQ IGAR (South) complex, Mantripukhri on June 26.
Speaking at the ceremony, Manipur Police Chief, Y Joy Kumar assured that the government will ensure in providing a way for their future life under existing surrender policy.
Major General CA Krishnan, IGAR (South) who also spoke on the occasion said that such a large scale surrender by young people will prove to be a beacon for other misguided youth to lay down their arms, abjure violence and return to the main stream.
Large quantity of warlike stores and communication equipment including a AK Rifle with ammunition, two Sten Carbines, two 303 rifles, 4 pistols, a revolver, hand grenades and three wireless radio sets were laid before the security force during the ceremony.
The surrender ceremony was also attended by Brigadier SK Bhanot, the Commander of the 26 Sector Assam Rifles and Commandants of 29 Assam Rifles, 31 Assam Rifles and 22 GRENADIERS.
In a email press note by PRO (south) said the peaceful ‘home coming’ of the militants is an eventual outcome of continuous and sustained efforts by the Assam Rifles in motivating the family and relatives of militants in joining the mainstream.
