Library, documentation unit at Shalom Rehab

A newly constructed library and documentation unit was inaugurated at Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Chumukedima on Monday by Lt. Col. P. H. Reddy SM, 69 Engineer Regiment on behalf of Lt Gen NK Singh, AVSM, VSM, GOC, HQ 3 CORPS and Brig Rajesh Tyagi, Chief Engineer.
In his address the chief guest said addiction had no age, caste, tribe or colour barrier and said people need to be aware of this social menace and work together to contain it.
He also appreciated the work done by Shalom and encouraged the inmates to give their full attention in the process of recovery.
The building was blessed by Rev. Fr. Chacko Karinthayil, the founder director of Shalom.
The day was also marked with the commemoration of “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”.
Kheheto Sema, assistant director, department of social welfare was also present besides fathers, sisters, dignitaries, village council chairman and gaunburas.
The youth from the neighbouring institutions joined in the programme and presented songs while the inmates shared their life story.
The director of the centre, Rev. Fr. Joe Mariadhas, thanked OP Sadbhavana, 69 Engineer Regiment for the act of charity.
