In what can termed as one of the fastest trail ever carried out, all the accused of last year March 25 Darogapathar gang rape incident were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment under various sections of the law.
Informing about the judgments, additional public prosecutor Akum said that the main accused Bonatho and Kaghato were convicted and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 376 (g)- gang rape, 6 years under section 457- Trespass/lurking of house and 6 years under section 392 for robbery. While accused Temsulemba was sentenced to 6 years each under section 457 and 392 and one year under 216(b) – abetment of crime. However it may be noted that the quantum of imprisonment is to run ‘concurrently’ that is both the main accused in reality will serve only 10 years instead of the total of 22 years and 6 years instead of 13 years for accused Temsulemba.
Moreover, the main accused have been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, which is the minimum under section 376 (g) by the court, after considering the young age of one of the accused and plight of the wife and children of the other.
Meanwhile, the addl. PP Akum also reiterated that the trail was one of the fastest and further urged the public to have faith in the judiciary.
