Daklane panchayat Kohima has adopted a set of resolutions at a meeting of its council members on June 25, pertaining to sale of liquor and other intoxicating substances in the colony. According to panchayat chairman, S. Ghunakha Swu, council members have observed during meeting that sale of wine, “zutho” and “zu-u” on the roadside at various parts of the colony, particularly the road leading towards SBCK, MOC, GMS, GPS and Charity school was abusing the sanctity of the area and causing inconvenience in the neighborhood as well as to church/college/school goers.
In this regard, Daklane panchayat has informed that it would prohibit liquor shops in Daklane colony to open after 7pm and cautioned that violators would be dealt with as per panchayat resolutions.
It would also ban sale of talab, gutka, tez and other intoxicative substances in the colony. Panchayat has also expressed hope that house owners in Daklane and neighboring Nagabazar would honor decision taken by council members in its bid to make the road commendable for educational institutions and the church, in evacuating tenants/occupants showing “indecent behavior” and also those creating problems on the roadsides. Meanwhile, panchayat also informed that Daklane youth has been authorized to conduct checking and to ensure that scheduled time was maintained for peaceful co-existence in the colony.
