Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema in collaboration with NHB and ICCOA, Bangalore are putting effort to facilitate the pineapple growers of Molvom village for direct marketing of pineapple at Delhi. In order to maintain proper quality of pineapple for marketing, CIH organized a day long training on “Post Harvest Management and Value addition of pineapple” at Molvom village on Tuesday.
Dr. Akali Sema, Director, CIH had a detailed discussion with identified farmers for direct marketing of their pineapple produce to Delhi. This was followed by practical field demonstration on the harvesting, handling and packaging of pineapple for the farmers group of direct pineapple marketing by Dr. B.C. Deka, Head, Division of Horticulture ICAR, Barapani.
Identified farmers were demonstrated practically on identifying the right stage of harvesting for long distant marketing and ways of handling the fruits after harvesting and packaging. CIH Post harvest technologist, Puvichono, later on deliberated on practical demonstration on harvesting, handling and packaging in pineapple, followed by preparation of various pineapple products. Alltogether 86 farmers attended the training programme.
