Fishing at off season banned in Doyang reservoir

Directorate of fisheries has prohibited fishing during off season at Doyang reservoir.
The department has requested the surrounding villages to avoid use of explosives, poisons and harmful chemicals as per Rule 9, 14 and 15 of Nagaland Fisheries Regulation (Rules), 2008.
Fish farmers have been informed to use prescribed mesh size of fishing nets and fishing crafts to avoid catching undersized fishes, juveniles, spawn etc as per Rules 5 and 8 of Nagaland Fisheries Regulation (Rules), 2008.
Earlier on June 4 the department released four lakhs fingerlings to the reservoir and another four lakh fingerlings on June 24. The department of fisheries have been ranching the reservoir annually in order to increase the total fish population which in turn benefited the surrounding villages comprising of more than 400 households.
