ICTC data from April 2009 to March 2010 shows that, out of 1733 clients detected as HIV+ in Nagaland, 48% (832) were detected in Dimapur.
According to Nagaland State Aids Control Society (NSACS) report, the mapping data also revealed that Dimapur has the greatest number of high risk groups i.e. injecting drug users, men having sex with men, female sex workers, migrants, making Dimapur with all necessary ingredients to fuel the epidemic.
With figures increasing even this year, the report said the prevalence of HIV in Dimapur contributed to almost 50% of the total HIV prevalence rate in the whole state.
Proportion of HIV positivity rate in Dimapur compared with the rest of the districts shows that Dimapur is largely contributing to the total state positivity rate at an increasing trend over the last three years, with 32.4% in 2007, 44.4% in 2008 & 48% in 2009.
The report came in the backdrop of Red Ribbon Express visit to Dimapur. During RRE’s stop over at Dimapur, 4269 persons visited the HIV train, 298 counseled, 228 tested, 40 provided with STI treatment and 75 medical treatment.
