2 dead, 5 injured in Phek road mishap

Two persons including one student belonging to Kilenkaba Memorial College (Immanuel college) Dimapur died while another five were seriously injured in a road mishap between Lanyi junction and Losami about 20 kilometers away from Phek district headquarters on Thursday at around 9.15 pm, Phek police sources said, Friday. The goods laden truck which met the accident was bound for Pungro town from Dimapur with nine occupants. The other two escaped unhurt as they jumped out of the truck, police said.
One of the deceased was identified as one Khumtsose Sangtam; a class XII student of KMC College Dimapur, who succumbed to his injuries at Phek district civil hospital around 2 am, Friday. The other deceased who was the handy man of the truck died on the spot. He was said to be a non-local yet to be identified died on the spot.
According to police, out of the five persons injured, two have been shifted to Dimapur for further treatment while the other three were admitted in Phek district civil hospital. The condition of the truck driver was stated to be critical.
The body of the student was later handed over to his relatives after completing postmortem formalities, while the body of the handy man has been kept at Phek District Civil hospital mortuary for identification. Police were yet to register the case till the time of filing this report.
