1 abducted in Kohima

A former activist of the GPRN/NSCN cadre was reportedly abducted on June 4 around 11:30 a.m. by unidentified armed men near Red Cross Society Kohima. According to the victim’s brother, one Ameto Awomi (23), son of Vikhey Awomi of Tezutu village, Kiphire district, along with his friend was intercepted by three local youths in one Maruti Alto (silver colour) near Red Cross Society building. The victim was picked up while his companion left behind, he said. The abductors had purportedly told the companion that they were friends of the victim. It was reported, that later, the victim’s companion received a call that same day at around 1:30 p.m. from the abductors, who threatened him of dire consequences if he leaked information about the incident. When contacted, SP Kiphire Aotemsu and SP Kohima Zekotso Mero said no such reports have been filed in their respective jurisdictions. When the victim’s brother was asked if police were informed, replied in the negative adding that FIR had also not been lodged. It was also revealed that the motive behind the abduction was not known. Meanwhile, the victim’s family, appealed for Ameto’s safe return and requested groups/organizations/individuals involved, to release him on humanitarian ground. They also appealed to those involved, to inform them about the victim’s fate.
