Seminar on food processing in Longpha

One day seminar on food processing cum practical demonstration of fruits and vegetables was conducted at Longpha village Mokokchung by PIAC, ATMA Kobulong Block on June 12.
The resource person B. Temjenmenla HEA (Horti) discussed on the processing of fruits and vegetables. She observed that fruits and vegetables were cheap and abundant, and that it becomes wastage since they are highly perishable.
“This wastage can be prevented if they are preserved and processed in various value-added products, though in home scale”, she added.
She said the main objective of preservation was to prevent wastage, increase nutritional status of the family, to increase the availability of fruits and vegetables beyond the glut season and for economic upliftment.
In the practical demonstration squash, sauce and pickle were prepared from various fruits and vegetables. Representatives from ten different SHGs, village council, church and youth attended the programme.
Dr. M. Toshi Aier convenor, FIAC ATMA Koblg. Block, chaired the programme.
