All Nagaland pre-service teachers’ association (ANPSTA) has decided to initiate first-phase agitation June 22 to press their long-pending demand for implementation of National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) norms in recruitment of elementary teachers. The association has also resolved that its agitation would follow to the extent of “fast unto death” till its genuine demands were fulfilled. In connection with this, the ANPSTA has requested all its members to attend the agitation by reaching school education directorate 9 a.m. that day. It has cautioned members who fail to attend the proposed demonstration, with stern action as per ANPSTA resolution. Meanwhile, in a representation to the state education minister, the ANPSTA highlighted its demand and urged the minister to look into the matter seriously. It stated that number of unemployed PSTE trained at hand was 1044 and 400 undergoing trainees in eight DIETs.
