The All India Lawyers’ Union, Manipur state unit Tuesday expressed strong resentment over the government failure to distribute essential commodities brought into the state during the economic blockade.
Stating that it is responsibility of the Central government to ensure that food items control by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and petroleum products control by Indian Oil Corporation into the state, the lawyers’ body also said that they will go to the Supreme Court for court’s intervention in directing the Centre to ensure undisturbed distribution of these items in the state.
Talking to reporters, convener of AILU, state unit, P Tomcha alleged that the items procured has not been distributed to the people till today and that the prevailing situation has compelled the people to raise questions whether the items were taken into custody by some vested interest persons.
As the Indian Oil Corporation and Food Corporation are under the control of the government of India, state government can lodged complaints with the Centre regarding the disturbances given in the procuring of the items, he observed.
Reiterating that that the centre government should take up appropriate action and measures to free the national highways instead of requesting the bandh calling bodies to lift the bandh.
The AILU also said that even though, Manipur is within the Indian union, the question can be raised about the country’s rule of laws in the state. The lawyers’ body will go to Supreme Court as the Centre had failed to ensure undisturbed flow of food and petroleum in Manipur AILU convener opined.
He also appealed that instead of ministers and MLA’s building up groupism among them, they should work for relieving the people from the suffering woes.
