CMO cautions against selling expired food items

Chief medical officer (CMO) Kohima has informed consumers to check labels of food articles before purchasing.
Stating that sale of expired food items in the market have been reported, Chief medical office said that as per the notification issued from the Food (Health) Authority, 205, any food articles which exceeded “Best Before” by 15 days, a fine of Rs 5,000 would be imposed as first offense and an amount of Rs.10, 000 as second offense with cancellation of Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) license.
Public have also been requested to report to Chief medical officer and local (Health) authority Kohima for necessary action if any cases of expired food items were being sold.
