For the first time in Kiphire district, rodent pest management awareness programme was conducted for farmers of 20 villages under Kiphire district on June 15 under ‘plant protection programme’.
At the inaugural programme, deputy commissioner CM Tsanglao exhorted the gathering to always monitor and keep vigil of the field by gathering information on rodent pest management. He advised farmers to cooperate with the department. Deputy Director of agriculture Howoto Wotsa, highlighting on rodent problems and bamboo flowering asked the farmers to be prepared for any outbreak of rodents.
Resource person SDO (C) Dimapur Jacob Yanthan dwelt on rodents’ habitation, life cycle, damages symptoms and control measures through indigenous traps.
Meanwhile, department of agriculture under Tseminyu sub-division conducted one day farmers’ training on Rodent pest management on June 15 at New Terogonu panchayat hall. Resource person, Kezholezo Zao, SDAO Tsemenyu, stressed on menace of rodent population and its effects, he also explained that rodents spread diseases and explained in detail on its behavior, habitation, migration, food habitats and control measures of rodents.
45 farmers from four nearby villages attended the training. Rodenticides were distributed to the participants.
