As a top government panel holds a series of discussions on the Bhopal tragedy and its aftermath, and amid calls for an explanation from the top leaders of the time, then chief minister Arjun Singh has finally broken his silence on the then Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson.
Singh has been quoted in an exclusive interview by the Hindustan Times as saying he had “no locus standi” on Anderson’s exit, which means he has virtually put the ball in the court of the Central government of the time. This comes close after the then foreign secretary M K Rasgotra remarked that the Rajiv Gandhi government had promised “safe passage” to Anderson - a statement that the Congress has vehemently denied.
Arjun Singh has also reportedly told Hindustan Times that his autobiography will have all the details of the Anderson saga.
The veteran Congressman refused to elaborate any further. Ever since the Bhopal verdict came on June 7, there have been cries of foul play by the Government.
