Caught in a series of controversies, hounded by allegations of corruption and financial bungling and in a running battle with the varsity teachers’ association, Nagaland University vice-chancellor, professor K.Kannan can finally heave a sigh of relief. Central Bureau of Investigation, which was investigating a series of charges against him, has given Kannan a clean chit redeeming his position considerably, the Indian Express reported. CBI has reportedly said that it has not found “anything to substantiate” the allegations against him and has conveyed the same to HRD Ministry. The state government in its own inquiry indicted Kannan on several counts. Charges against him range from alleged harassment of teachers to being too media friendly. That apart, Kannan came under the CBI’s scrutiny for charges of financial irregularities like improper usage of infrastructure and equipment funds. Top NU authorities including Kannan, former registrar Thejao Vihienuo and controller of examination Tongpang Ao were implicated in another scam of Rs 33 lakh by the Nagaland University Teachers’ Union.
