10 convicted for murder

The district and sessions judge Dimapur on Friday convicted 10 persons for their involvement in dacoity and murder of Late Rafic Ahmed inside a grocery shop at Ghorapatty Dimapur on November 15, 2005. The 10 accused have been identified as Hukum Ali, Haijul Ali, Babul Hussain, Nazim Uddin, Sahab Uddin, Nurjamal, Kudus Ali, Panas Ali, Abdul Kalam, and Shajan Ali.
The district and sessions judge Dimapur, S. Hukato Swu in a judgment and order said the two accused Hukum Ali and Shajan Ali, who fired guns and contributively caused the death of Rafic have been given life imprisonment and another six years for offences of the arms act. The judge said that the sentence shall be aggregated to 20 years and the period of detention already undergone by them be set off and to suffer the rest of the sentence. The other eight accused have been sentenced to undergo 10 years of RI and another six years of RI for offences of the arms act. The judge said that the sentences awarded shall run concurrently and shall aggregate to 10 years RI and the days already served shall be set off.
As per the judgment order, the sole eye witness of the incident stated that on the night of November 14 while he along with the victim were inside his shop getting ready to retire to bed, the accused persons numbering around 12 knocked at their door. When the two raised an alarm, five of them broke open the door and entered his shop asking them why they were shouting. In this process, the witness said two of the accused took out their guns and shot dead Rafic.
The witness said that the accused persons threatened him and took away some cash from his shop.
