Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) has written a representation to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung to review the government notification No. PHE-2/Works/70/2004 Dt. Kohima April 9 in connection with later government revision on water fees and charges. The representation, appended by N. Bendang Jamir Coordinator Mokokchung Municipal Council, stated that monthly fees/charge as laid down by the department for various categories of consumers was “considered very high and unreasonable”. It added that latest revision made a quantum jump of 233% against domestic and commercial consumer, 200% against industrial sector and 100% for all other charges.
The representation also stated that Mokokchung was the only district in the State where the metering system of billing was being implemented successfully since 2003 thereby making the district the highest revenue earning district by PHE Department in the State.
The representation also recorded its apprehension if the latest fees/ charges were to be implemented, adding that all section of consumers may not cooperate with the department “as the latest fixation is unreasonable and may avertedly affect the performance of the department”. The representation also requested DC Mokokchung to take up the matter with the government at the earliest and also asked that the existing rate may be allowed to continue till the government review the rate at a reasonable and justifiable manner.
