DDK viewership only 5% coverage: Tohanba

Parliamentary secretary for information and public relations R. Tohanba highlighting the manpower requirement of DDK and AIR Kohima requested the information & broadcasting ministry for up-linking facility at DDK, Kohima, stating that the present viewership coverage accounted for only 5% of state population.
Speaking at the conference of all media units under ministry of information and broadcasting, government of India at Guwahati Tohanba also appealed for up-gradation of All India Radio transmitters in Kohima, Mon and Tuensang for reaching media coverage to the remote areas of the state.
Secretary (I&B) Raghu Menon, IAS assured the gathering that their presentations were well taken and that digitalization of DD and AIR of all NE states will be completed by 2011.
He further said that broadband connectivity will be provided to IPR department of NE states, provide more sets of DTH TV sets and pursue with planning commission in the 12th Plan for fund allocations to the ministry, for infrastructural development of the IPR department of NE region. The parliamentary secretary was accompanied by Commissioner & Secretary, I&PR M.K. Mero. Presentations and discussions on various media units of Doordarshan, All India Radio, and press information bureau, directorate of field publicity, song & drama division and directorate of audio visual publicity were made by head of the respective units. Two day conference was held on July 12 and 13.
The inaugural conference was graced by the minister for information & broadcasting, government of India Ambika Soni and was chaired by the Secretary, I&B Raghu Menon, IAS.
