‘Bhanu Jayanti’ birth anniv observed

Nepali and Gorkha communities of Kohima today celebrated 196th Birth Anniversary of Nepali Litterateur Bhanu Jayanti Acharya with pomp and gaiety at Academy Hall and Gorkha Public Panchayat Hall under the aegis of North East Region Service Nepali Association (NERSNA) and Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) respectively.
Joint Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, A. K. Rai graced the occasion as the chief guest while Nepali Literary Secretary of Nepali Sanskriti Suraksha Parishad (NE) from Assam Dr. Shiv Acharya was the guest of honour. At Academy Hall NERSNA President and Nepali Sanskriti Sangrakshan Samity, Kohima Mon Bahadur Sonar chaired the function. Proprietor & Editor Mirmire Kanchanjunga (Nepali Weekly) and Information & Publicity Secretary Nepali Shahitya Parishad, Sikkim, Kemanta Giri and Nepali Literay Journalist & Writer from Shillong, Hem Joshi were the distinguished guest.
Raising of curtain and garlanding of the portrait of Poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, recitation of Ramayana by Punaram Pokrel, brief life sketch of the great Nepali poet by Puran Poudel, special song were some of the highlights of the celebration. NERSNA president also presented the Balkrishna Samajseva Puruskar 2010 and NERSANA general secretary Anil Chetri tendered the vote of thanks.
At Chandmari Joint Secretary Health and Family Welfare, A. K. Rai was the chief guest with Chief Manager SBI Dimapur, L. B. Pradhan as the guest of honour. Vice President GPPK Nobin Pradhan chaired the function while GPPK general secretary P. K. Thapa tendered the welcome address. Ramayana was read by Purohit Khemnath Acharya whiel Shankar Rai dwelt on life sketch of Adi Kabi. Gayatri Devi and students recited poems. Felicitation of meritorious students also marked the occasion. Advisor Vivela Club Santu Thapa tendered the vote of thanks.
Speaking on the occasions, the chief guest elaborated on the life of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya and urged the gathering to follow his examples. He also encouraged the gathering to uphold the Nepali tradition and also impart the same to younger generation. Besides the formal programme the celebrations were also marked by cultural programmes.
