Forthcoming election to the post of president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) to be held soon, could witness a contest instead of consensus. Congress sources both in the state and Delhi said that the date for the election was yet to be announced. Sources in the Congress confirmed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had directed all the state PCC’s to complete their election within July 25.
Speculations doing the rounds indicated that there could be a straight contest between present NPCC president and MLA I. Imkong and Congress legislator S.I Jamir.
The Electoral College is expected to consist of 60 PCC members, 11 DCCs president, 4 frontal chiefs, all ex presidents of NPCC and some quota for the CLP leader, which will total 80 to 85 votes. When contacted on phone, I. Imkong who was appointed by the AICC informed that he and CLP leader Tokheho will go to Delhi on July 18 and call on AICC president Sonia Gandhi on July 19.
He also said that the AICC was yet to announce the date of election while confirming he was also a candidate for the three-year term. Imkong also admitted that he learnt that another candidate was also likely to contest. He exuded confidence about the outcome. In the meantime S.I Jamir could not be contacted for his comments.
Meanwhile the clear picture is yet too emerged in the Congress set-up as highly placed sources in Congress revealed that two districts Dimapur and Wokha were yet to finish their district and assembly level elections.
