Discontented over the method of appointment of NREGS under Wokha district, Kyong Students’ Union (KSU) has made a three point representation to DRDA Wokha chief executive officer demanding all staff of NREGS Wokha be appointed through “open-door” policy with preference given to local indigenous candidate, and interview be made at Wokha including a KSU nominee in the selection board.
A joint representation issued by KSU president, N. Yiben Humtsoe and general secretary, Mhabemo Mozhui alleged that appointments of NREGS staff for Wokha were made without justice. Pointing out that KSU was disconcerted with the matter as early as 2007 and subsequently submitted a representation to the governor of Nagaland for redressal of union’s grievances, it however, alleged that general public was not aware of how appointments of more than 35 staff under the district were made as no public notification was issued in this regard. KSU also stated that as NREGS implementation was related to rural areas where language communication was still a problem, preference for local indigenous candidates should be considered, if candidates had requisite qualification. KSU has appealed to the authority to address its grievances within 35 days from submission of the representation and stated that, upon failure to comply, the union would initiate its own course of action.
