State blindness rate at 1.05%

A review meeting of National Programme for Control of Blindness 2009-2010 and 2010- 11(April to June 2010) was held at IDSP conference hall of the directorate of health and family welfare, Kohima on July 16.
The meeting reviewed that state had a prevalence rate of blindness at 1.05% and a total of 1046 cataract cases were successfully operated upon during 2009- 10 and 189 cases during 2010-2011 (April to June’10).
The meeting was attended by district nodal officers of ten districts and a host of senior government officials including Menukhol John, commissioner and secretary, Dr. V. Sekhose, principal director, health and family welfare, Dr. K. Assumi, additional director H&FW and Dr. M. Takonuksung Lemtor, joint director H&FW & SPO (National Programme for Control of Blindness).
Performance reports from all district nodal officers were presented and various issues regarding the implementation of the National Programme for Control of Blindness in the State were deliberated.
