Several organizations have condemned the July 14 rape incident that occurred in Vidima village, wherein one GB identified as Rato Angami (82) raped a 12-year-old girl. The octogenarian had called the victim to his house under the pretext of doing some chores after which he raped her. Expressing regret that one of its members had brought “disgrace, shame and distrust” to the union, the Chakhro GBs’ union Dimapur president Lhoulasienyü Shüya and secretary Thepfükedo Kuotsu, in a press note, appealed to the authority to award befitting punishment in the “strictest form”. Further, the union said it has expelled Rato Sokhrie from GB membership with immediate effect. Maintaining that GBs were elected by the people for their guidance and help, the Dimapur district GBs’ association, in a release issued by its president M.Y. Ngullie said to their dismay such heinous crime was committed by GB, whom people thought to be honest and God fearing. Stating that such act should be condemned in the strongest term by all, the DDGBA said the accused must be punished according to the law of the land. It also urged DC to terminate his appointment immediately “without any notice.” In another statement, the Jotsoma Chakhro Nuolhou Krotho (JCNK) expressed shock over the rape of a minor by one of the member of its organisation Rato Angami.
